Just a short swim off the beach is what is billed as a sunken shipwrecked replica of Queen Anne’s Revenge – Blackbeard’s flagship that sunk off North Carolina in 1718.
There’s a large bright and highly visible mooring buoy over the “wreck”, making it easy to find. Under the buoy you’ll find only a row of cannons and what appears to be the freeboard of the port or starboard side of the ship. Colorful coral can be found growing on the wreck and cannons.
The site is in 10-15 feet of crystal clear blue water, approximately 50 yards off shore. Schools of colorful tropicals frequent the site, making this a fun snorkel spot. Nearby, you’ll also find the bow of the ship half-buried in the sand.
