The reef ledge approximately 2.5 miles north of the Hillsboro Inlet is known as Opal Towers. The area has a ledge which reaches as deep as 42 feet with a maximum 10 foot profile. Sponges, corals, lobster, eels, turtles, octopuses, parrotfish, angelfish, and many tropical fish inhabit this area.
This site often offers good visibility and rarely has strong currents. This ledge is popular for night diving and drift diving. Start at the south end where the reef is the tallest and slowly drift north following the reef as it curves toward shore. The south side often has a wall of fish to swim through.
Although the area is shallow, it is brimming with sea life and is a great dive. Beginners will especially find this an enjoyable dive site.
