The Lerri Galleon was part of the 1733 wreck that forced 21 ships on to the Florida Keys. These ships were attempting to bring silver pesos from Havana when they were advised to change route to avoid an oncoming storm. This advisory did not come soon enough to save the ships, which went down on July 15, 1733.

Lerri is not the ship to explore if one is searching for treasure, but it has produced many relics throughout the years. This English-built ship has been reduced to a pile of ballast stones located in 20 feet of water 3/4 of a mile from Lower Matecumbe. This is a great dive for catching interesting photographs.
